OXIPRO is proud to welcome onboard Ruite Xiang, our new PhD student who has joined the team at Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC).
Ruite began his academic career with a passion for biology and chemistry, which led to his successful completion of a BSc in Biochemistry at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Following this, Ruite discovered and developed an aptitude for programming, which he decided to apply in his scientific career.
Led by his Python prowess, Ruite then successfully completed an MSc in Bioinformatics at UAB, during which time he joined the team of OXIPRO partner, Prof. Victor Guallar at Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC). Here he has made significant contributions, including the development of a classifier to predict the promiscuity of esterases and satumut – a Python package to perform saturated mutagenesis using the in-house software PELE.
This package is proving highly related to Ruite’s role in OXIPRO, whereby he will use it to improve the different enzymes assigned to the team in silico before they are moved to the experimental team.
