OXIPRO is delighted to announce the addition of a new member to its dynamic team: Lars Santema.
Lars successfully completed his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Life Sciences at the University of Groningen, where he developed a main interest in teaching and complemented this with a minor in Chemistry Education.
His passion for his thesis subject: Vibration energy transfer in proteins, inspired Lars to pursue his studies by taking a Master’s in Biomolecular Science in 2018, also at the University of Groningen (RUG). Lars spent his second year at the prestigious Medical University of Fukushima, Japan, after which he took the opportunity to travel around Japan.
On completion of his MSc, Lars was offered a position to conduct Corona tests back in the Netherlands, which enhanced his skills application even further. After providing research support for the pandemic for six months, Lars secured a PhD position at RUG as a member of the OXIPRO Work Package 3 team under the supervision of Prof. Marco Fraajie, Lars’s responsibility in the project is to design clever ways to express and engineer flavoprotein oxidases.
