OXIPRO Welcomes New Junior Researcher at LEITAT

OXIPRO is delighted to welcome onboard Helena Balfagon Campos, who has recently started as a junior researcher at LEITAT (CE-Applied Microbiology & Biotechnologies).

Helena was in Barcelona, Spain, where she built her biology basis at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. After her graduation, she successfully undertook a master’s degree in microbiology for which she developed her Msc thesis in the respiratory virus department of Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), where she studied the molecular epidemiology of Respiratory Sincitial Virus (RSV). During her internship she built up a molecular background and discovered that her true vocation is to be involved in an investigation project.

As part of this career path, she explored additional fields in biology and opened up new academic horizons by studying for a postgraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Industry and Biotechnology at Barcelona University. At the same time, she started her research position in LEITAT, where she has been able to enhance her skills in biocatalysis, molecular, and microbiology areas.

Regarding her role in the OXIPRO project, Helena will be involved in the development of sustainable UV filters through laccase oxidative polymerization and testing different oxidases to produce antimicrobial molecules in laundry.

Joining OXIPRO provides Helena with a great opportunity to advance her career further.
