A Climate-Neutral, Gender-Balanced Approach

Active Site Newsletter #4 – providing news and events on enzymes for greener products from OXIPRO and our sister projects EnXylaScope, FuturEnzymes and RadicalZ – is OUT NOW!

This issue relates to the focus of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science which examines the role of women in the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals. The editorial points out that: “In terms of scientific development, there is a clear gap between women’s interest in a sustainable world, and their opportunities to help create it. 57% of bio-product innovations are first authored by female researchers, but only 41% of employees in science are female. Furthermore, although women tend to exhibit more pro-environmental attitudes than men, only 22% of bio-products are manufactured by females and the proportion of women inventors in the development of green technologies is less than 10% in most European countries”. Clearly, this requires a call for action.

Also in this issue, you can read about updates from all the Enzyme Cluster projects, take up an invitation to join the OXIPRO Community, find out what’s hot in the EU, read about the latest publications, look at grant opportunities & job vacancies, and save the dates for upcoming events on enzymology, biotech and much more!
