As part of OXIPRO’s outreach programme designed to engage the general public and raise awareness of the benefits of our work, team members in Spain and Norway are reaching out to university students and finding out what they think about our enzyme-based biotechnology breakthroughs
At a recent campaign in Spain, the OXIPRO team from LEITAT led by Aroa Rey Campa shared insights about the project and conducted a survey at the University of Barcelona during the Catalonia Biotech Day. This event featured insightful talks on synthetic and computational biology, along with career guidance for students. The LEITAT team welcomed undergraduate and master’s students interested in the evolving world of biotech, exploring the powerful potential of sustainable solutions.
OXIPRO survey insights:
The survey that the teams are administering is designed to develop our understanding of the public’s perceptions of enzyme-containing products and their role in everyday items like detergents, sunscreens, and textiles. The survey results revealed that on the whole, participants are willing to pay more for enzyme-based, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional and potentially more environmentally harmful products. The survey respondents also demonstrated a keen interest in sustainable biotech.
In sum, a strong interest in sustainability suggests that enzyme-enhanced products are widely accepted, especially among students. Respondents also showed a willingness to pay extra for greener choices, revealing a growing market
OXIPRO partners from NORCE will be conducting the same survey with university students in Norway and comparisons between responses will be made to find out how the tendencies in different countries vary.
